A solid, even robin's-egg blue is the most valued; fine dark matrix lines are fine. Persian turquoise is the classic.

Tanzanite: from one place on Earth
Tanzanite is mined only in Tanzania, near Mount Kilimanjaro. Deeper violet-blue is worth more.

Gentle care
Turquoise (5–6 Mohs) is porous — keep it away from oils and perfume. Tanzanite needs a protective setting. Skip ultrasonic cleaners for both.
