About Pink Sapphire
Pink sapphire is corundum coloured by chromium, from soft pastel pink to vivid hot pink. The deepest stones sit next to ruby on the colour scale, and where pink ends and red begins can vary by lab.
- Mineral: Corundum
- Hardness: 9 on the Mohs scale
- Main sources: Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Myanmar (Burma), Tanzania
- Treatments: Pink sapphires are commonly heated to improve colour; ask us for the lab report on any stone to see its treatment.
- Care: Wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and store it apart from softer gems so it does not scratch them.
