About Moissanite
Moissanite is silicon carbide, first found in nature as tiny grains in a meteorite crater; gem moissanite is lab-created. It is very hard and shows more fire than diamond, giving a strong rainbow sparkle.
- Mineral: Silicon carbide
- Hardness: 9.25 on the Mohs scale
- Main sources: Lab-created (natural moissanite is too scarce for jewellery)
- Treatments: All moissanite we sell is lab-created, not mined, and is always labelled as lab-created.
- Care: Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush; it is hard and tough enough for everyday wear.
